AMIGE perform geophysical surveys on the continental shelf for a wide range of engineering applications. These surveys are generally aimed to:
- study acoustic stratigraphy of the upper part of the soil section with following identification of stratigraphic units;
- study relief of the bedrock surface, and detect surfaces of unconformities, faults, tectonic dislocation zones, etc;
- detect any objects both natural and man-induced on the seabed surface and just beneath it which may be hazardous for engineering activities within the study area;
- predict geotechnical soil properties and assess their spatial variability.
In process of geophysical surveys on the Arctic shelf the following is executed in addition:
- study of sub-aquatic permafrost zone;
- detection and delimitation of gas-containing soil strata spreading within sub-aquatic permafrost zone.
Various methods of geophysical survey are used to meet the above challenges such as:
- Sub-bottom profiling;
- Side scan sonar survey (SSSS);
